The School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University and IT provider BT recently signed an agreement to cooperate on long-term collaborative research initiatives with a focus on the development of new technologies in emerging markets, industrialization mechanism in China, and innovation ecosystem evolution.
As part of the agreement, BT will provide faculty at Tsinghua SEM the opportunity to meet and communicate with BT’s professional staff and other third party experts. This will help them to learn firsthand about the latest revolutionary technologies and products. BT will also provide funding to selected projects.
The collaboration will also provide for students of Tsinghua SEM to gain direct work experience at BT’s premises. Additionally, excellent BT projects will be included as case studies in the Tsinghua SEM MBA programme.
BT established its China Research and Development Centre in Shanghai in 2007, which was relocated to Beijing in January 2009. One of the major purposes of the centre is to cooperate and exchange knowledge with tertiary institutions regarding the development of communications technologies. Kevin Taylor, managing director, BT Asia Pacific said, “This partnership will allow us to pool the strengths of both BT and Tsinghua SEM to achieve innovative technological research, groom future talents, while laying a strong foundation for further cooperation between the two parties in future.”
Professor Zhu Yan, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, said, “BT is a world leading networked IT services company that boasts advanced technologies and concepts, abundant practical experiences, and direct market knowledge. These strengths will give us leading edge insights which will aid us in our pursuit of fundamental research. BT is also very supportive of training young talents, and we are delighted to be working with such a company.”
