SEOUL - Korea will open the first public high school for children from multicultural families in Seoul in March of 2012, the government reported in its website, korea.net.
The report said the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Presidential Committee on Social Cohesion signed a memorandum of understanding with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the city educational office for the establishment of the special high school.
"The school will serve the needs of underprivileged children from multicultural families, will be called “Asom”, and unlike most high schools, it will not charge tuition," it said.
The government said there were 42,676 children from immigrant and multicultural families living in Korea last year and about 7,360 of them were not enrolled or quit schools due to language barriers, cultural differences or economic difficulties. Asom High School will have six classes and 120 students.
