The health sector in Sri Lanka is set to go paperless with the newly developed Hospital Health Information Management System (HHIMS), a release in the government website said.
The user-friendly, free open source software (HHIMS) is a joint effort between the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and the Health Ministry, it said.
When the new system is in place, doctors in government hospitals will be able to easily access patient’s comprehensive medical records from computers and would be able to prescribe medications and document them electronically.
The report said the software has been tested in five hospitals - Karavanella, Mawanella, Endegoda, Kitulgala, and Deraniyagala - in the Kegalle District for over six months and is now ready to be installed in other government hospitals.
