Taiwan to complete transition to digital TV in 2014

Taiwan's National Communications Commission recently announced that transition to digital television will be completed one year ahead of schedule in 2014.
In July this year, the nation's 5 wireless TV stations will stop broadcasting in analog but the switch to digital will be completed only in 2014 when cable television also switches on to digital.
NCC said with digital television, viewers will have more channels to choose from and enjoy better quality images. NCC Commissioner Chen Cheng-tsang was quoted in a report in Taiwan Today as saying that the country still lags behind other Asian countries in digital broadcasting. Japan has 100 percent digital broadcasting, while Korea has 30 percent digital broadcasting rate.
The decision to speed up the digitization process, the report said, is part of the campaign promise made by President Ma Ying-Jeou during his recent re-election.
