Most standards in the United States and other Western countries related to medical content can be adjusted to suit medical environments in Asia, though some modifications may be required. In a move to reduce costs, the National Health Service (NHS) organizations began moving from leased lines to N3, a national DSL-based IP network, providing redundancy to 18,000 NHS sites. With confidential patient information being transported over public and shared Internet connections the NHS sought to implement a new solution to protect user data and meet industry compliance requirements.
